Description: This is one of twelve volunteer build shelters along the 311-mile Allegheny Trail. This watercolor exemplifies the refuge backpackers feel after a long day of hiking in the mountains of West Virginia. With sleeping bags and mattress pads setup and a study roof overhead to keep the dry as the storm rolls in, the weary middle-aged man looks out at nature relishing the journey of the day and preparing for the challenge of tomorrow on the Allegheny Trail.

Bio: Heidi Nisbett is a professional artist, muralist and outdoor enthusiast with over 5,000 international miles of hiking. In 2024, she thru hiked West Virginia’s longest hiking trail, the 311-mile Allegheny Trail (ALT) to illustrate the backpacking and thru hiking experience. Her artwork showcases the beauty that the Allegheny Trail has to offer deep in the Appalachian Mountains of WV. She has over 5,000 miles of international hiking and painted a gorgeous mural in Durbin, WV as well.
