  • Kevin Honeycutt

    Vice President

    Kevin Honeycutt

I'm an experienced bikepacker and hiker with hundreds of miles on my bike in West Virginia as well as the Great American Passage. I've had my feet on almost every mile of the ALT. I love the outdoors and I've been actively volunteering with WVSTA and the Allegheny Trail for over three years. Previously, I served on the board as the Section Representative and was chosen by the trail maintenance coordinators in each section.

I have worked in management in the safety industry for over 25 years. I live in Morgantown with a wife of 20 years and our two sons. I enjoy getting out in nature and giving back.

  • Jennifer Bunner

    Secretary

    Jennifer Bunner

Jennifer has spent many years hiking, kayaking, SUPing, and walking.  She learned of WVSTA and the Allegheny Trail in the Summer of 2024 while camping. She sought out the ALT and once on it, she was eager to learn more.  She attended the annual Trek that same year and has been volunteering with the trail ever since.  In May, she hiked half of the trail and plans to complete it soon. She is already planning her next long distance hike out west! She comes to the association with a love of the outdoors, a love for West Virginia and all of its beauty and a background in education, community service, and grant writing.  She lives by the motto, "bloom where you're planted" and is grateful every day to learn more, meet new people, and give of herself in ways that empower others.

She and her husband love to camp, hike and travel West Virginia, visiting state parks and all the beauty the state has to offer. • Mary Ingles Trailblazer Representative

    Rick Gregg

Rick Gregg became a member of WVSTA when we purchased some land in Greenbrier County in 2003 for business purposes which is only 1 3/4 miles from the Laurel Creek Trailhead, (Junction of Sections 3 & 4). Prior to joining WVSTA I was woefully ignorant on how trails are maintained. And I mean WOEFULLY. I thought USFS or the USPS paid summer help to do it! It was an eye opener for me to realize the tremendous amount of work that volunteers and their fund-raising efforts contribute to the trail systems in America. Wonderful work and I’m proud to a small part of it!

Although WVSTA’s goal is caring for the Allegheny Trail, its sub-chapter Mary Ingles Trail Blazers (MITB) has its main goal as memorializing the travails and courage of Mary Draper-Ingles. This brave, determined lady was captured by the Shawnee Indians in 1755. She was carried to their town in Chillicothe, Ohio, but ultimately escaped. She didn’t know the paths and trails to make it back home to Blacksburg, Virginia area but she knew to “follow the river”. If she did that, she would make it home. And she did. Her story about the ease of making salt in our beautiful Kanawha Valley piqued the interests o

My primary interest for MITB is geared towards expanding and improving the Mary Ingles Memorial Trail sections here in Kanawha Co. The Marmet Locks and Dam project is ongoing and will hopefully be under construction by spring of 2026. It will be a mile long trail around the so-named Mount Holley Lawn on the Belle side of the river. (Mt. Holley Lawn is a man-made mound from the spoil material excavated for the locks expansion). Ultimately, once the boardwalk and gravel trail is constructed, we hope to add historical signage to present the wonderful history of the Kanawha Valley. We have achieved funding from grants through the efforts of Secretary Eric Nelson, the Kanawha County Commission with help from former Delegate Larry Rowe. We have coordinated the legal agreements with the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers, the WV Division of Highways and the Kanawha County Commission. It has been 4-years in the making. Hopefully, Mary Ingles will be pleased when this section of her memorial trail is completed.

  • Josh Sheets

Josh brings a passion for hiking and backpacking to WVSTA's Board as an At-Large member.  He thru hiked the Allegheny Trail (ALT) in the Fall of 2024 and fell in love with the dedicated volunteers he met and the beautiful trail towns along the way.  Josh has also thru hiked over 15 other long distance trails, totaling more than 8,000 miles.  He has been a brand ambassador for FarOut, Jolly Gear, and Hyperlite Mountain Gear.  Josh most recently completed a season working on the Appalachian Trail in Maryland as a Ridgerunner.  He looks forward to providing value and input to the Board to make WVSTA and ALT even better!
