Allegheny Trail Cooperators' Meeting & Board Meeting

The last Saturday in August of every year. at 1pm.  Trail volunteers, adopt-the-trail maintainers, agency cooperators, private land-owning cooperators, and WVSTA officers meet to discuss issues and opportunities of the Trail. Board Meeting following around 3 or 4PM.

The Eastern Divide Ranger District of Jefferson National Forest will host the annual ALT Cooperators Meeting at the Glen Alton farm facility at the base of Peters Mountain in Giles Co., VA on August 25, 2018 beginning at 1pm.  A previous correspondence from me to some of our USFS cooperators hinted the meeting would be held at the Blacksburg Office, but the EDRD has agreed to host at Glen Alton, which will make the trip shorter for our Monongahela NF and James River District of GWNF cooperators, as well as our WV State Park and Forest Cooperators.  Location info is provided below at the web-links.

The meeting format is informal.  I hope to have an agenda prepared for the meeting, but an impending trip to Greece may impede progress on preparing an agenda.  Please feel free to pass along your proposals for agenda items and I will see what I can do.

Agenda items that I am aware of now include:

-Updates from WVSTA and other cooperators on progress in trail maintenance and improvements (see web links for Wood’s Wacky Week of Work and Welaxation below.

-Volunteer work hours reports from all four sections of the ALT.

-Partnership forming with Davis and Elkins College in WV for student involvement in trail projects.

-Partnership forming with Cass Scenic RR State Park.

-Proposals for specific ALT work projects being planned for the year ahead.

-Web-based information dissemination regarding the ALT in all USFS districts and state parks and forests, including links to WVSTA webpages that are pertinent.

-Progress on the fourth edition of the ALT Hiking Guide.

-The ALT gap in Eastern Divide RD and James River RD.

-Progress on the Great Eastern Trail coalignment with the ALT.

-Mitigation efforts on pipeline impacts to the ALT.

-Wildlife enhancement projects along the ALT.

-Trail shelter needs along the ALT.

Please send this information along to all other representatives of your institutions that you think should be made aware of this meeting.

Please e-mail or phone me to advise that you will or will not attend.
